In 1991, PilgrimPage opened its doors in a little kitchen in North Lawrence. Founder Billy Pilgrim, local musician and designer, decided it was time for a day job. After years of creating promotional materials for the music industry, he found his design skills were in demand and began to staff up accordingly. Billy took on business partner and company president Lee Eldridge to help lead PilgrimPage into the future. The design shop moved to downtown Lawrence in 1994. As the client list grew, so did the list of services offered and PilgrimPage evolved into a full-service graphic design and marketing firm.
One service that Lee and Billy found was in great demand was their knowledge of the promotional products industry. The staff at PilgrimPage believed that the time was right to expand these services into a new business. In 2000, PilgrimPage launched Absorbent, Ink., an online promotional products and corporate gifts company. Absorbent, Ink. grew quickly and soon became the primary business within the walls of PilgrimPage.
By 2006, the Absorbent, Ink. staff had outgrown their downtown office, and PilgrimPage moved West. West Lawrence that is. With a new and significantly larger office, Absorbent, Ink. continued to grow. With a staff of almost 50, Absorbent, Ink. was recognized in 2007 and 2008 by Inc. magazine as one of the fastest growing businesses in the United States, and was twice recognized by Counselor magazine as one of the best places to work within the promotional products industry.
Though PilgrimPage closed its doors in August of 2009, Billy and Lee have continued with their work in marketing and promotions. Billy has opened his new design studio, simply named Billy Pilgrim. Billy's new website showcases his work in branding, website development and photography. Lee and Kristin Eldridge have opened Snap Promotions, a promotional products and corporate gifts company, to service PilgrimPage's local client base.
